We’ve got some Olympic fever in our house, and while I love the Games, I get even more excited by great design. So when I read about the young (31!) landscape designer Sarah Price and her vision for the stunning Olympic Park Gardens, I became slightly obsessed.
Price studied fine art painting and you can see the nuance and layered detail reflected in her garden designs. Her winning concept for the Olympic Park is an exuberant and quintessentially English-style expanse of over 250 native species. She also found inspiration in her grandmother’s Welsh garden, where she learned her craft during childhood summers. Though meticulously plotted, her design has the thrilling impact of a carefree field of wildflowers. Take a look:
Much like the High Line, it’s a beautifully-conceived public oasis – and one that will delight long after the Olympic torch has been passed.
