In the time-honored New Year’s tradition, I wanted to set a few goals to challenge and inspire my upcoming work. I am hereby offering up my top three Design Resolutions:
I’d love to to envelop a space in the same way - using a client’s most-loved hue as designer Tobi Fairley did with this turquoise living room from House Beautiful.
2. Use more eco-friendly products and materials. In designing my own home, I put a huge value on materials that are safe and healthy for my children. I’m fortunate to create beautiful living spaces for families and it’s important that these are intrinsically good environments. Happily, the design industry is rising to the occasion with gorgeous “green” products. Here are two of my favorites:
The wallcoverings in Trove’s REDEUX collection, which are PVC-free and include recycled materials.
Christopher Peacock’s LEED-certified luxury paints, which boast “the lowest VOC of any high-quality, waterborne paint in the world.”
3. Use stripes in inventive ways. It’s no secret that I’m smitten with stripes – their timeless, infinite quality and the graphic pop they bring to a design. Working them into my interiors is a natural inclination, which is why I was captivated by this dynamic interpretation featured in the most recent Andrew Martin Design Review
Likewise, the playful candy stripe is used to brilliant effect throughout this Cote Sud bedroom from Le Best of Elle Deco
Here’s to an adventurous and inspired 2012!
