Slim Aarons is one of my favorite photographers. Known for photographing rich people doing fun things in the ’50s and ’60s, Aarons captured images that may look over-the-top but were definitely real.
Many of his photos evoke a preppy, vintage, Palm Beach style reminiscent of summery fun and perfect for this time of year.
I love his stuff and own one of his pieces, and I even had the pleasure of meeting Aarons about seven years ago. He was a very sweet man, and his captivating personality is one of the reasons he was able to get such a close look at the private lives of celebrities.
Given his access to so many jet-setters, it’s not hard to believe that copies of his 1974 book, A Wonderful Time: An Intimate Portrait of the Good Life, are so sought-after you can hardly find them anymore, and if you do, they’re certain to cost a pretty penny.
If you love his one-of-a-kind photos too, you can view more in this photographer’s gallery. Here’s to summer fun in the sun!
